HABITS OF SUCCESSFUL STUDENTS - PART 3
9. Giving Up on Multitasking
Multitasking
is one of the biggest scams of this generation. People are made to think that
they are not good enough if they are not simultaneously working on multiple
things. In reality, you need to stay focused on one thing for the time, and the
time you save by staying focused can be spent on other things. That's exactly
what successful students do; they never add any distractions when trying to
achieve something.
10. Each study time should have a specific
goal
Simply
studying without direction is not effective. You need to know exactly what you
need to accomplish during each study session. Before you start studying, set a
study session goal that supports your overall academic goal (i.e. memorize 30
vocabulary words in order to ace the vocabulary section on an upcoming Spanish
test.)
11. Always review your notes before
starting an assignment
Obviously,
before you can review your notes you must first have notes. Always make sure to
take good notes in class. Before you start each study session and before you
start a particular assignment review your notes thoroughly to make sure you
know how to complete the assignment correctly.
12. Find a study group
Sitting
down with a group of people who are learning the same things as you is a great
way to go over confusing class material or prepare for a big test. You can quiz
each other, reteach material, and make sure that everyone is on the same page.
After all, teaching someone else is the best way to learn.
13. Asking Questions
Active participation is essential during class. While many students are just not confident enough to ask teachers about a certain topic, the reality is that they are not attentive enough during class. The successful students, on the other hand, are always eager to ask the teacher anything that they don't understand. As a result, their concepts are clearer than others.
