HOW TO IMPROVE AGRICULTURE – PART 3

9. Plant more densely

It is the simplest way to improve the productivity of farms, in this plant crops close together. Many farmers keep their vegetables excessively away, which leads to the abandonment of large areas growing well.

10. Increase the use of fertilizers
As soil fertility deteriorates, fertilizer use must increase. Governments need to ensure the right type of fertilizers are available at the right price, and at the right times. Fertilizer education lessens the environmental impact and an analysis of such training programs in East Africa found they boosted average incomes by 61%.

11. Tracking Resources and Making Timely Decisions

Relying on a gut feeling when deciding on farm operations? It is not a really good idea, since technology can do it for you. Data-driven farm management is the only safe way to track resource utilization, whether it’s the matter of tracking work execution, costs for each farm activity or appliance of fertilizers or pest protection products. Therefore, tracking the resources per each crop, field, and season, is extremely important to achieve productive and profitable crop production.

12. Technical Efficiency (TE)

Achieving technical efficiency means a farm is producing at the maximum level as allowed by the technology it has access to. Technology in this sense includes inputs like soil quality, human capital or labor availability, variable costs, capital expenses and even the age and education of the farmer can be calculated as potential factors of technical efficiency.
