MODERN
AGRICULTURE OR FARMING
Modern agriculture is an
ever-changing approach to agricultural innovations and farming practices that
helps farmers increase efficiency and reduce the amount of natural resources
needed to meet the world’s food, fuel and fiber demands. Modern farming practices
allow farmers to increase productivity while decreasing environmental impact.
Modern
Agriculture covers a broad scope of multidisciplinary and
interdisciplinary fields that encompass the parts of natural, economic and
social sciences that are used in the practice and understanding of agriculture.
The scope ranges from agricultural engineering to informatics, agroecosystems,
biotechnology, soil, chemistry, breeding of crops, livestock and aquaculture
etc.
Modern
farms and agricultural operations work far differently than those a few decades
ago, primarily because of advancements in technology, including sensors,
devices, machines, and information technology. Today’s agriculture routinely
uses sophisticated technologies such as robots, temperature and moisture
sensors, aerial images, and GPS
technology. These advanced devices and precision agriculture and robotic systems allow
businesses to be more profitable, efficient, safer, and more environmentally
friendly.
The use of technology in farming and agricultural practices to increase efficiency, productivity, and sustainability in food production. It includes several different types of technologies, such as precision agriculture, smart irrigation, biotechnology, and automation. Additionally, there are significant technological advancements in areas like indoor vertical farming, livestock technology, modern greenhouse practices, artificial intelligence, and blockchain.
