countries. In the globalized world, proficiency in English is a valuable asset
for anyone looking to excel in technology and business.
5.
English can make you ‘smarter’
Learning
a foreign language enhances your cognitive and analytical abilities. Learning a
new language can be difficult and it involves a lot of mental exercises. Research
from a 2012 Swiss Study shows that learning a new language
changes the brain structures, impacting the parts of the brain responsible for
memory, conscious thought and it can make you more creative. In the long term,
bilingualism can keep the brain strong and healthy into old age and supports
concentration and memory skills. On an individual level, it improves
personality and increases sense of self-worth. In simple words, learning a
foreign language makes the brain stronger and more versatile.
6.
Career Advancement
English
language skills are highly valued by employers in various industries.
Proficiency in English enhances employability and opens doors to a wider range
of job opportunities, both locally and internationally. Many high-paying jobs
require a strong command of English, especially in fields such as international
business, tourism, journalism, and academia.
7.
English is the dominant language in academia
As
of 2020, 17 of the top 20 universities in the global rankings are English-speaking. This alone shows
how widely-adopted English is as the language of academia. Learning English
opens the door to some of the world’s top colleges and universities,
particularly in the United States and United Kingdom. Many of these
institutions ask for a B2 level of English. If you’re looking to improve
your English specifically to meet this criteria, you can easily find
an online tutor who can assess your speaking, writing, listening and
reading skills.
