IMPORTANCE OF LEARNING ARABIC – PART 3
8.
Intercultural understanding
Not
only can knowing Arabic help you financially, but it can also help you achieve
intercultural understanding. Many people in the Western world may have heard
about belly dancing, read 1,001 Nights, and eaten Middle Eastern dishes
such as hummus and falafel, but this limited exposure does not tell you
everything there is to know about the Arabic way of life. When exploring the
Arab world, you learn to appreciate the distinct culture and the values that
are important to its people, including honor, dignity, and hospitality. This
can help you better understand your Arab-Americans fellow citizens who
constitute ~ 3.5 million of the residents in the United States.
9.
Gain an academic advantage
One
of the best reasons to learn Arabic is the benefit to academics. Proficiency in
Arabic offers significant advantages to researchers, analysts, and publishers
in various fields such as anthropology, comparative literature, history, Middle
Eastern studies, religious studies, sociology, and translation. It enables them
to effectively acquire, interpret, evaluate, and share primary source
materials. Having proficiency in the Arabic language distinguishes accomplished
academics from their less versatile counterparts.
10.
Get international experience in important countries.
Traveling
and study abroad is an option available to students studying a language. While
many go to Europe or Latin America, few go to countries such as Morocco, Egypt,
Jordan or Lebanon. These countries, among other Middle Eastern countries are of
great importance and interest to US businesses and government. With few
Americans in the Middle East in a language program, the local context, culture,
business practices and the formation of key relationships are struggling to be
realized.
11.
Language
of Quran
Also, it is seen as the legitimate language of Islam since The Holy Quran, our prophet's Sunnah, and the Islamic legacy are all written in it.
